Come by a bit early\, chat and catch up. \nCharles says\, “There are too many approaches to abstract art to get a firm number. So often times getting started is the most challenging part of the process. I will show some guidelines you can use to get going produce a piece of art of which you can be proud. Go HERE to learn more. \nCharles Wallis is a master painter who currently is creating modern impressionist art. He is a graduate of the Baylor University fine art program. After college he opened a graphic design studio beginning his career as a professional artist. His paintings reflect mastery of his craft and versatility in a variety of styles and media. He paints in a variety of styles including traditional realistic\, as well as impressionistic\, abstract and non objective. His works have shown in the TVAA Gallery\, Dallas; Cultivate 7Twelve\, Waco;  Adobe Western Art\, Ft. Worth; Kissing Tree Vineyards Tasting Room\, Eddy;  and The Frame Gallery\, Bryan TX. He recently won Best In Show Irving Art Association 66th Annual Member Show.  In 2021\, the Texas House of Representatives in the 87th session passed a resolution recognizing his art in HR000743. \nARTIST STATEMENT:  The essence of all art is to have pleasure in giving pleasure to others. My art is the expression of my spirit to the spirit of others that connect with it.  I seek to create a memory\, a wish\, a fantasy or moment of joy or peace in the soul of the viewer.  I pursue ideas\, color combinations or images that attract my attention in the abstract;  or as an impression; and some paintings are just for the fun of presenting something in an unusual style. \n\nYou can find out more at his website: charleswallis.com

DESCRIPTION:We are in for a real treat!  Joe Natowitz\, retired TAMU prof\, will be sharing his passion for working with glass at our September meeting.  His topic?  “Glass Matters!”  He says\, “Glass\, born of earth and fire\, is a uniquely versatile artistic material. Simultaneously demanding and forgiving\, it lends itself to a myriad of artistic techniques. Exploring those techniques can become an obsession.” \n \n“I have followed this obsession down a number of different pathways. In some of these efforts I lead. In others the glass leads. Either way the result of this collaboration is a unique item not exactly duplicated anywhere in our universe. I like that and it gives me great satisfaction when the work resonates with another individual. \nMy formal training and career was as an academic scientist. Only after retirement have I pursued my interest in art. DESCRIPTION:  \n \nConversation with\nTim “Pops” Vanya\nOur June meeting is a conversation with VAS member\, T.W. “Pops” Vanya.  Links and contact info are in our Our Artists section. \n  \nBiography: T.W. ‘Pops‘ Vanya was born in Durban\, South Africa and spent 1972-8 at the University of Houston in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. \nHe has been painting since 2000 but that’s just recently. His career has not always followed the way of the artist; a Houston Police Officer\, as delivery boat crew in the yachting industry\, a cabinet maker\, an iron worker\, a life guard and a few other pursuits along the way lead interestingly enough\, to the world of western art. He and his wife Kathy now make their home in the rural community of Somerville in central Texas. Their home is 117 years old and they live close to the cattle\, horses\, ranches and cowboys he loves to portray.  \nHe makes the statement that “God granted me the ability to put onto paper and canvas that which I can see. The fact that my avocation and vocation are the same is God’s grace provision; therefore\, let the work begin.”  \n“Pops” has had 3 principle one man expositions: \n2019 Arts Council of the Brazos Valley Gallery\, “Cowboys and Pretty Women” (New Works) – College Station\, Texas\n2016 ARTS Gallery\, “A Life Spent Coloring” – 30 Year Retrospective of the Works of T.W. Vanya – Fayetteville\, Texas\n2014 The Gallery at Round Top\, “The Pretty Ladies Show” – Round Top\, Texas\n \nToday we are fortunate to hear him discuss his process:  what to paint\, reference material and painting/drawing/art principles: \n\nConcept…. what the hell are you watint to say?!?\nDesign/Layout\nColor/Value/Chroma… what do they mean?\nValue/Contrast – the unwanted stepchild of the art world\nCraftsmanship – mastering your media\nFraming for success or failure\n\nHe will be bringing several works that illustrate & reenforce these principles.  There will be a couple of handouts as well. \nWe will also be inducting our newly elected Board of Directors for 2024-2025. \nDoors open at DEGALLERY at 5:30pm.  You can visit our latest show\, “Art in Bloom.” There will be light refreshments.  Come by a bit early\, chat and catch up!

Her work is rooted in place in a spiritual way within the natural world. Currently exploring digital with edited and some composited images\, she prints the images on special archival papers\, then further manipulates with hand-coloring\, painting\, and sometimes encaustics. The results are often described as ethereal. Whether representational or abstract\, she seeks the little mysteries found when light models on forms and color. \nJaimie has a long use photography of traditional film and silver gelatin\, Cyanotype\, Van Dyke\, Photograms\, photo manipulations\, infrared\, and other alternative processes. As a fine art major\, she began exploring hand tinting\, coloring\, and painting of photographs with oils\, pencils\, and water based media while at the university. She used 35 mm\, 2 1/4 x 21/4\, and toy cameras. \nHer work is archival; made with materials for longevity. She has been in many galleries\, press\, and venues. Pieces are in private\, public\, and corporate collections. All pieces are in limited editions of 10 or 15 in one or more sizes. \nJaimie was born in Ohio\, and has lived in a variety of places in many states and countries. She earned a BFA from University of Montana with a certificate to teach.
