DESCRIPTION:Let’s enjoy this festive season together at our annual end-of-year celebration on Monday\, December 8\, 6-8pm – doors open at 5:30pm! Bring a couple dozen of your favorite plate of holiday cookies for a cookie exchange.  We will provide the beverages. Families are welcome! There will be dancing!! \nMembers can take part in our white elephant gift exchange\, which is totally optional but loads of fun! If you’d like to participate\, bring a small artsy gift (in size and cost) to contribute to the pool. Those of us who are artists typically bring a small something that we have created.  Some have even brought note cards\, artist supplies or custom calendars as gifts. \nHope to see you there!

DESCRIPTION:We are not having a VAS “Lunch Together” in December\, BUT our president\, Wendy Keeney-Kennicutt\, is inviting folks to her studio on Thursday\, Dec 18\, 11:30-3pm for an open house.  Just drop in anytime for coffee\, water\, snacks and chat!  Bring a sack lunch if you want! The address of her studio\, Brazos Watercolor Retreats\, is 13161 Hopes Creek Meadow Circle (HCM Circle)\, College Station\, TX 77845.  After lunch our treasurer Jacqui Miller invited you to stop by her place (just around the corner) to see her newborn lambs and maybe take some pictures.  Her address is 12970 Valley Circle College Station\, TX 77845 (North Star Equestrian Center). \nDirections: You cannot see Wendy’s house from the road\, but the driveway is directly opposite her mailbox. Just drive right in. Wendy will have hanging beach balls and sign by the driveway. Her cell is 979-492-0262 if you need to call or text. There is parking for approximately 6 cars next to the retreat. Please do not pull off the driveway into the grass – you might get stuck in her septic field and we definitely don’t want that! \n

SUMMARY:January 2026 VAS Meeting: Meet Jacqui Miller
DESCRIPTION:Meet member Jacqui Miller at our January 12 meeting when she shares her story. \nMy artistic practice began in childhood\, shaped first by my love for horses and then by my exposure to the Vietnam War. The moment I encountered Nick Ut’s photograph of the young girl fleeing the bombing\, my work shifted from beauty to advocacy. Even at nine\, I understood that images can carry moral force—that art can confront\, witness\, and demand response. \nOver the years\, my creative life intertwined with a long professional career in the equestrian world and a parallel path in design and communication. These disciplines trained me to observe closely\, to understand emotion in form\, and to appreciate how visual language shapes perception. \nAfter retiring from the horse industry\, I returned fully to art\, only to find an oversaturated visual landscape. This challenged me to ask essential questions: Why contribute more images to a world teeming with them? What is my voice? What is the purpose? \nThe answer lies in my earliest motivations. I am drawn to art that provokes thought\, challenges assumptions\, and opens space for empathy. My work engages themes of injustice\, resilience\, and the human cost of political and social systems. I often use found materials and symbolic forms\, transforming the familiar into commentary. \nMy practice is still evolving\, but its intention is clear: to create imagery that compels the viewer to pause\, question\, and feel—and perhaps to see the world\, and their place within it\, a little differently. \nDoors open at DEGALLERY at 5:30pm.    There will be light refreshments.  Come by a bit early\, chat and catch up! \n

SUMMARY:February 2026 VAS Meeting: Meet Joel Kitchens
DESCRIPTION:Meet member Joel Kitchens at our February 9 meeting when he shares his story and his new book! \nWhere will your art take you? For Joel Kitchens\, it led to a doctoral degree and a book newly published by Texas A&M University Press. In the early 2000s\, Joel had been changing his photographic technique from 35mm color to 4×5 large format black and white\, and a return to the traditional wet darkroom. San Antonio’s five colonial-era missions became the preferred subjects he photographed as he honed his skills. Because Joel was neither a native Texan nor Catholic\, he began to read and research the missions in order to make better informed images. Somewhere along the way\, he realized there was a story about the missions that was not being told. The research escalated exponentially and he chose to make these missions the focus for his doctoral dissertation\, and after many revisions\, the present book\, San Antonio and Its Missions: Three Centuries of History\, Memory\, and Heritage. The missions are “sites of memory\,” and the book defines this concept and explores how and why Spain built the missions\, what happened to the missions after the Spanish colonizers left\, and how and why the missions came to weigh so heavily in American imagination and identity\, even into the twenty-first century. Now with the book published\, Joel can return to the style of photography he loves most\, the silver gelatin print\, created on film\, and made in the traditional wet darkroom. \nDoors open at DEGALLERY at 5:30pm.    There will be light refreshments.  Come by a bit early\, chat and catch up! \n

SUMMARY:March 2026 VAS Meeting: Meet Theodora Krc
DESCRIPTION:Meet member Theodora Saladino Krc at our March 9 meeting when she shares her artist story! \n \nBorn in 1949 to Czech and Sicilian parents\, Theodora Saladino Krc (pronounced “Kerch”) was raised on a family nursery in Bryan\, Texas. A talented artist from a young age\, she moved to Houston in 1971 and eventually graduated from the University of Houston in 1984 with a degree in Fine Art. \nWhile she initially studied interior design\, Theodora found her true passion in painting. Her style evolved through a deep fascination with astronomy\, quantum physics\, and ancient philosophies. Today\, her “spiritual\, cosmic” artwork merges atomic theory with healing colors and shapes to explore the space-time continuum. Her visual expression aims to make the “invisible webs of the cosmos” visible\, imagining art from other dimensions where light forms matter. \nAfter further studies in graphic and web design in San Diego\, Theodora has returned to her roots in Bryan\, Texas\, where she continues her unique artistic exploration. \nDoors open at DEGALLERY at 5:30pm.    There will be light refreshments.  Come by a bit early\, chat and catch up! \n

Inspired by a formative meeting with Ansel Adams\, he now specializes in capturing the majestic\, remote reaches of the American landscape. His work has earned international recognition in the Epson PANO Awards and consistent honors from the New Haven Camera Club and the Visual Art Society of Bryan-College Station.
